Historic Transport Club

The Westcountry Club for Cars and Commercials

Royal Blue Coach at Paignton The Historic Transport Club was formed in the Autumn of 1974 by members of the H.C.V.C (Historic Commercial Vehicle Club) who felt that there was a need for a local club in the South West of England catering for those people interested in the preservation of Commercial Vehicles.

The Club has since broadened its horizons and now embraces all those with a general interest in the preservation of all types of vehicle. It is the only Club in the area to cater for both cars and commercial vehicles, many of our members own historic commercials and classic cars. It is not, of course, a criterion that a member own anything at all, and some of our flock just have a keen interest in the preservation movement - we welcome all.

The Club meets on the third Tuesday of the Month during the Winter at the Ley Arms at Kenn, on the outskirts of Exeter from around 8.30 p.m. Various guest speakers attend to entertain those present, past talks and slide shows have varied from Airships, The Stover Canal, Highway Furniture, Field Catering for the Forces, Speedway and much more.Open Top Double Deck Bus on Exmoor

During the Summer months we meet at various venues, often on Dartmoor. The Clubs main event is the annual Coastal Run which takes in over some 70 miles of Glorious Devon Roads ending with a Rally at Bovey Tracey. 2008 saw the 30th event taking place over the weekend of July 20/21st with over 300 vehicles taking part from the smallest Motor Cycle to Heavy Commercials. The following month members enjoy the usual Club Bar-B-Q. The photograph shown to the right was taken when Club members enjoyed a day trip in this pre-war open deck bus over Exmoor to Lynton.

The Club is always delighted to welcome new members owning anything from the smallest car to the largest heavy commercial or indeed just having an interest in the historic transport scene.

A newsletter is issued from time to time throughout the year and which can be emailed to those with the facility to receive it this way.
